Alfred Major Recreation Ground – Improvements to our Play Area
Cookham Parish Council is about to commission an update and renovation of the Alfred Major recreation ground play area, costing over £80,000. This is a lot of money for the Parish Council, and we have been slowly developing plans for this update for several years. We are excited about this project, and we hope to complete this work in 2022.
We have been working with Sutcliffe Play Ltd - https://www.sutcliffeplay.co.uk to design and install the equipment and we now have two alternative, professionally designed plans to decide between, you will find them below.
There are three parts to our project, all can be seen on the plans:
• To improve the children’s play area.
• To include a fitness trail at points around the edge of the Alfred Major recreation ground.
• To install a seating pod near to the skate ramp.
We have asked the opinions of local school children, but we are interested to hear from parents, carers and users of the park too. We will be collecting feedback until Sunday 20th February as we hope to decide the final plan shortly after this.

Information and the Designs
The Parish Council has also been working on other projects involving the Alfred Major Recreation Ground such as:
• An upgrade to our CCTV cameras. These will give us improved sharper images which will help us identify those who do not respect the park or equipment. Damaged equipment is not only costly to replace or repair but stops those who wish to enjoy the facilities.
• Wild flower patches: we are starting with one in 2022, but are looking to expand this in future years to include other areas of the park. We are hoping to start work on this in the early spring with help from the WildCookham Team.
